The other participants in the derby are: Randy Arozarena (Rays), Mookie Betts (Dodgers), Adolis García (Rangers), Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (Blue Jays), Luis Robert Jr. (White Sox), Julio Rodríguez (Mariners), and Adley Rutschman (Orioles).

The Home Run Derby bracket is seeded based on the players' season home run totals as of July 4. The tiebreaker, which gave Robert the No. 1 seed over Alonso, was home runs as of June 15.

The first round matchups are as follows:

  • No. 1 Luis Robert Jr. vs. No. 8 Adley Rutschman

  • No. 2 Pete Alonso vs. No. 7 Julio Rodríguez

  • No. 3 Mookie Betts vs. No. 6 Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

  • No. 4 Adolis García vs. No. 5 Randy Arozarena

The winners of the first round matchups will advance to the second round, where they will face off against the winners of the other two first round matchups. The winners of the second round matchups will then face off in the final round to determine the Home Run Derby champion.

The Home Run Derby format has been changed in recent years to make the event more exciting. Under the new format, each player gets three minutes in the first and second rounds to hit as many home runs as possible. Contestants in the finals get two minutes.

Each player also gets a bonus of 30 seconds at the end of each regulation period, and can earn another 30 seconds if he hits at least one home run 440 feet. Players also get one 45-second timeout during each regulation period.

Any round ending in a tie will be decided by a 60-second "swing off" with no time outs or bonus time. If there is still a tie after that, there will be successive three-swing "swing offs" until the tie is broken.

The Home Run Derby champion will receive a cool $1 million prize, while the runner-up will receive $500,000. The other participants will each receive a $25,000 prize.

According to Caesars Sportsbook, Alonso is the favorite to win the Home Run Derby. He is followed by Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Julio Rodríguez, Luis Robert Jr., Adolis García, Randy Arozarena, Mookie Betts, and Adley Rutschman. How to watch the 2023 MLB Home Run Derby
